Today we paid tribute to Michael Giles with a minute’s silence ahead of the Second XI match on the Green, followed by the unveiling of a commemorative plaque and a few words from Guy Pullen and Andrew Giles.
The plaque, mounted on the balcony, will serve as a lasting reminder of Michael and all that he meant to the club.
Michael’s lifelong connection with the club began in 1948. He started out as a scorer, later became a player, and went on to serve with distinction as Chairman, President, Life Member, and Trustee. A qualified coach and umpire, Michael also played a pivotal role in establishing the West Surrey Colts League.
The Giles family’s ties to Ripley run deep. Michael and Paula were familiar and welcoming faces at the club on weekends, with Paula often helping with the teas, while their children played on the village green. Michael’s friendship, leadership, and love of the game will never be forgotten. He leaves behind treasured memories and a lasting legacy that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
RCC would also like to thank Normandy CC for joining us in paying tribute to Michael.
